Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology (IBBM), National University of La Plata

The National University of La Plata (UNLP) was founded in 1905 and since that time has pioneered in cultural and scientific advanced developments. The UNLP offer more than 100 titles and host over 120.000 students. In addition the UNLP has research and development Institutes, Centers and Laboratories where about 6,000 researchers perform their activity. The IBBM is a relatively small Institute, with 25 researchers and more than 45 students (Diploma Thesis, Doctoral, and Postdoc) whose projects encompass microbial genomics, microbial ecological research, and host-microbe interactions. The Institute is actively involved in teaching at the grade and postgraduate levels, interacts with the private sector through institutional agreements and services.

Role and key persons: 

ESR10 will be hosted and principally supervised by Professor Mariano Pistorio at the UNLP and will be co-supervised by Professor Liliana Semorile of the National University of Quilmes. Both will receive additional input from Prof. Adriana Caballero National University of Comahue.

Research facilities, infrastructure and equipment: 

IBBM offers instrumentation and technical support for many state-of-the-art technologies in microbiology (Laser Confocal Microscopy, Fluorescence Microscopy, Laser Capture Microdissection, Real-Time PCR, access to Mass Spectrometry-Proteomics).
